Community partners are an essential pillar of our mission – providing support, spreading the word, and connecting other community members to Cape Abilities. Becca and Tom Ahrensfeld are exceptional examples of partnership in action. The family initially became involved through Cape Abilities Farm. As the owners of Reciprocity Artisans Market in Harwich Port, there was a natural crossover between the two businesses. Their daughter, Maddie, is a talented artist whose colorful cards are a favorite among customers at the Farm on Route 6A in Dennis.
Resonating on a deeper level with our mission, the Ahrensfelds have been instrumental partners in helping promote Cape Abilities through their own networks. We have been fortunate enough to join forces with Reciprocity for several community events, including Harwich Port Fall Festival and Whale Day, where we sold produce and promoted our mission.
“We’re so thrilled,” said Becca. “It’s been an amazing partnership, and it’s nice to get the word out over here…It’s my favorite feel-good place of all time.”
In addition, the Ahrensfelds were among the first Adopt A Home sponsors, which pairs a business, organization, or individual with one of our 15 group homes, to help provide the highest quality living experience for our residents. Through the Ahrensfelds’ support, we are able to do a complete remodel of the bathroom and refinish the floors at one of our group homes – which will allow for greater accessibility and sense of well-being.
“We are so happy to have this meaningful connection with the Ahrensfeld family,” said Cape Abilities President & CEO Kim McElholm. “Becca, Tom, and Maddie have made supporting the community an integral part of their family business, and we are grateful for their partnership.”
