Cape Abilities Farm Announces Launch of SNAP CSA Program

Cape Abilities Farm, a social enterprise of Cape Abilities, a nonprofit dedicated to creating opportunities for individuals with disabilities on Cape Cod, is pleased to announce the launch of its SNAP CSA program. The program is the latest effort by Cape Abilities Farm to address the need for food security on Cape Cod.

For those who receive SNAP benefits, the program will enable the purchase of a box of fresh, local, and organic produce, similar to the Cape Abilities Farm Market Box, through SNAP. The program also qualifies for HIP benefits which rebate a portion of the cost back. SNAP customers will have the option to purchase a share for the spring or summer season to be picked up every week or every other week. The primary difference between the Cape Abilities Farm Market Box program and the SNAP CSA program is that interested parties will need to complete a CSA Agreement form and return it to Cape Abilities Farm by the designated deadline. This form is available at Cape Abilities Farm, or at capeabilitiesfarm.org.

“We are proud to be offering the SNAP CSA program,” said Tracey Fraser, Director of Cape Abilities Farm. “The Farm has been a SNAP/HIP vendor since 2021, and the creation of this dedicated program specifically for these valued customers is important to us – it’s about inclusion, community, and universal access to healthy, farm-fresh food.”

How the CSA works:

  • Individuals sign up for a farm share of fresh vegetables and fruit for a pre-determined period, as well as the type of membership.
  • Members pick up their share at: Cape Abilities Farm, 458 Main Street, Dennis MA.
  • Payment will be processed through SNAP monthly allocation. HIP benefits will be applied to payment of the SNAP CSA.

Deadlines to apply:

April/May Spring CSA: Enroll by March 23, 2023

June/July/August Summer CSA: Enroll by May 25, 2023
