Businesses & Partnerships
In our ongoing effort to meet the needs of individuals seeking meaningful employment opportunities, we have developed our own innovative, entrepreneurial businesses and currently have three different enterprises that employ Cape Abilities participants.
We take pride in our businesses because they are mission-driven and provide vocational training, employment, and significant community interactions for those we serve. Most importantly, our participants earn minimum wage or better while learning new skills and trades.
Cape Abilities Farm
Cape Abilities Farm on Route 6A in Dennis was founded in 2006 and it has recently expanded to include state-of-the-art greenhouses and a brand new farm stand as part of our ongoing effort to meet the needs of individuals seeking meaningful employment opportunities. This farm has grown to become not only our largest business operation but a destination for people who are seeking fresh, local produce and want to help support our work through their purchases.
Cape Abilities Farm has been featured in the Boston Globe, on Fox News, MSNBC and CBS Evening News.
Cape Abilities Thrift Shop
Cape Abilities Thrift Shop on Route 28 in West Yarmouth was established in 2009 and specializes in the re-sale of donated home décor and clothing. In addition to employing Cape Abilities participants, the shop also sells items from our 6A Farm, local artwork and unique Cape Cod-centric gift items.
SourceAmerica through AbilitiyOne
Cape Abilities is proud to maintain work contracts with SourceAmerica through AbilityOne, a federal nonprofit agency whose mission is to create employment opportunities for people with severe disabilities. Providing employment opportunities to more than 45,000 people, the AbilityOne Program is the largest single source of employment for people who are blind or have other severe disabilities. Cape Abilities is one of 600 nonprofit organizations that participate in this program.
Our AbilityOne contracts are at Air Station Cape Cod in Bourne and the Veterans Administration Clinic in Hyannis. Our crews keep these facilities clean so the people who work there can do their jobs. Our workers maintain a high standard and take great pride in their jobs, and the professionals at both sites appreciate that.
