Cape Abilities Transportation – The Heart Behind the Wheels

Cape Abilities’ Transportation Department is more than just getting from point A to point B—it’s a key part of the services we provide and a vital link to independence and connection for the individuals we serve. Covering 25 routes, our dedicated drivers hit the road, logging over 220 days a year to keep our community moving.

Our fleet currently spans 65 vehicles, all managed by a team of 35 committed drivers. Many of these drivers, including relief staff, come from fascinating backgrounds—retired golf pros, police officers, and even a former Secret Service agent—all united by a desire to make a difference. They work unique “split shifts,” navigating both morning and afternoon routes, and find fulfillment in the relationships they build along the way.

Each day at Lyndon Center, you can feel the connection between our drivers and the people they transport. From high-fives to shared jokes, they bring joy and stability, creating moments of true camaraderie. For some, their driver is a familiar face in a cherished routine; for others, they’re like family. As one of our drivers put it, “If you’re missing one day, they’ll ask where you are and when you’re coming back.”

For our transportation team, each route is a journey that goes far beyond the road.
