Amy’s journey with Rise and Shine Treats began through Cape Abilities’ Individual Supports program, where she discovered her passion for connecting with others. Last winter, she eagerly job-shadowed at the holiday market, greeting customers and sharing the story behind each delicious treat. The experience sparked something in her, and this year, she’s thrilled to return—not just to the market but also to Rise and Shine’s new inclusive café in Osterville, a space where her confidence and talents continue to grow.
Over the past two summers, Amy has been a ray of sun at the Osterville Farmers Market, honing her skills and embracing her role with pride. From mastering food safety protocols to handling cash with precision, she has not only developed valuable job skills but also formed meaningful connections. When asked what she loves most about her work, Amy lights up and answers with a simple, heartfelt word: “Everything.”
Kay Burton, Amy’s case manager, has witnessed firsthand how much this opportunity means to her. “Amy has grown so much with Rise and Shine,” Kay shares. “She’s confident, she’s engaging, and she’s an invaluable member of the team. And let’s not forget her favorite role—official taste tester!”
Amy’s story is a testament to the power of inclusion and the impact of community support. Through programs like Individual Supports, individuals like Amy can find purpose, joy, and a sense of belonging. Her journey reminds us all that the holiday season is about more than just treats and festivities—it’s about creating opportunities for connection and celebrating the unique contributions that everyone brings to the table.
