Chris Axner knew he was ready for the next step in his life. Feeling confident in the independent skills he had developed, Chris was looking to explore career opportunities. Cape Abilities’ Individual Supports Program was ready to help guide him on his way to success through Agency with Choice.
Like all Cape Abilities programs, Agency with Choice is person-centered and tailored to the unique goals, skills, and interests of every individual. The program enables individuals to be in the driver’s seat of their services, taking an active role in planning, administration, and ongoing supervision.
For individuals looking to pursue career interests and work in a supported environment, this program is key in helping them to launch into their next step.
“With Agency with Choice, Chris has the opportunity to work within our community with a one-to-one staff, which is something that he has always wanted to do in life,” said Brittany Sampson, Director of Vocational Services.
Chris soon began working at a local Cumberland Farms with support from a job coach – a job he continues to love and where he learns new skills every day.
“Chris needed this program to be able to explore working within the community and gain a paycheck, which is something that he always looks forward to each week,” said Brittany. “He is a hard worker and Cumberland Farm values Chris as an employee. This has brought a light to his life and given him the chance to achieve a lifetime goal.”
Chris continues to excel at his job with support from Agency with Choice. With his skill, ambition, and the active role Chris plays in his services, the sky’s the limit for his future endeavors!
